About Your Work

1. How large should my piece be? What medium should I use?

The accepted media include:

  • Drawings done in graphite, colored pencil, pen and ink, marker, pastel, charcoal, etc.
  • Paintings done in oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, etc.

Sorry, we are not making exceptions at this time. However, we encourage artists that primarily work in other media to participate…take a stab at a painting or a drawing, we have faith in you! Keep in mind it is not always a matter of technical skill that makes a drawing or painting impressive, but rather how creative the artist can be with her or his manipulation of the medium, theme, etc.

Accepted artwork dimensions:

  • Minimum: 11 x 14 inches
  • Maximum: 24 x 30 inches

2. I’m a photographer or a sculptor, can I submit my work?

Unfortunately, at this time the RFA is accepting submissions in limited media. It is our hope that as the Competition grows, we can broaden the scope to include other media in the future.  However, those principles of aesthetics that make your photographs, sculptures, etc. strong should enable you to create a great painting or drawing, so don’t be afraid to submit one to our competition!

3. Can I submit one of my past pieces?

Yes, if you feel a piece of art that you completed during your high school career appropriately addresses the theme of our competition, feel free to submit it to the competition.

4. Can I enter a work that has been displayed previously?

Yes. As long as the work was created during your high school career, and fits the media and theme requirements, you can submit the work.

5. Will the RFA give me supplies to create my work?

At this time, the RFA is not able to supply students with art supplies.  We hope that as the competition grows, we will be able to do so.
